On June 26, MD Isaquel da Silva from the Bandim Health Project successfully defended his PhD thesis, entitled “Specific and non-specific effects of measles and BCG vaccines in women of childbearing age in Guinea-Bissau: Impact on maternal and child health”, at the University of Southern Denmark.

Isaquel is the 8th Guinean PhD from the Bandim Health Project. The previous Guinean PhDs have all remained in Guinea-Bissau and taken up leading positions within the health system.

Looking ahead, we hope it will become possible to obtain a PhD degree in Guinea-Bissau. With Isaquel, the country has an excellent researcher with unique capabilities and strong dedication to improving the health of his country.
